One Of Those Dark Poems
That Everyone Says is Emo
Is Total Bull
Okay, peeps, listen up-
I've had a rant building for a while
and it's about to come out.
Look up Emo. No, seriously,
google 'emo define'.
Yeah, I agree- wth?!
No one seems to know
what an emo actually is.
My personal favorites?
"Emo: like a goth,
only a lot less dark,
and much more
Harry Potter."
Translate, please.
So, if I see a guy
that's not a goth,
but still kinda a gothand looks a little like that kid
in those book-based movies,
I'm looking at an emo?
That could kinda be anybody.
My other favorite:
"Emo: Writes dark poetry."
Bull.
I can write dark poetry.
So can you.
So can anyone.
It's not like you have to mean it,
about dark skies,
bleeding hearts,
and armageddon.
Yadda, yadda, yadda.
I could do all that
in one haiku.
'My heart cries it's pain
to a black, empty night sky
as my world explodes.'
See?
Yay! I've achieved
official emo status!
So what if I don't have
a backwards mullet,
painted-on pants,
black anything and everything,
and don't wear any makeup-
those are not emo requirements.
I can write dark poetry.
So there.
Too bad my poem
is as deep and meaningful
as the dog doo on my shoe.
Got a problem with that?
Go modify wikipedia.
That should brighten your day.
Tell them it's Latin
for something dark and mysterious.
I'm in the emo club.
You're not.
Does that make you
a Non-Emo?
I hope you get my point by now:
don't give someone else
some superficial label.
Let them do it for themselves.
I can be emo if I feel like it.
And that's my definition.
